Astro IPTV or TM Unifi
Do you intend to install fiber lines in your home? You have already subscribed to Astro / Astro Beyond, but you stuck to choose from which supplier. As I write this, there are two suppliers provide the TM Unifi and Maxis Fibre.
Both of these providers have certain offers in their packages. In fact, prices have been different.
Below is a comparison of their package:
Accordingly, Maxis Fibre has collaborated with Astro for Astro IPTV package like this:
In summary, the Astro IPTV offerings seem more economical and because in addition to install fiber lines internet they also add 7 HD channels. In my case, I took Astro IPTV Package 1 & Fibre 10Mbps = RM133 + RM148 - RM25(discount) = RM256/Month.
Actually, the most important point of today's blog is not just only to share about the packages provided by the supplier, but also after-sales service is a matter of fact is very important because it will be faced by the customer after installation. Don't just be able to smile while after installed but sad and upset afterwards caused by poor service.
Based on my experience, the two suppliers that Unifi and Astro / Maxis is providing 48-hour period to address the problem (through telephone calls). What is interesting is usually the Astro will use totally 48 hours to address the problem by getting the cooperation from Maxis because of they are the fiber package providers and next to get the cooperation from TM Unifi due to their owned the physical fiber line. If you only subscribe to a fiber line from TM Unifi, there are usually able to resolve within 8-12 hours and they are issuing different bills from Astro but absolutely we going to spend more monthly (RM133 + RM199 = RM332/month). In addition, the IPTV package by TM Unifi are more than Astro IPTV.
Thats quite simple idea for you to choose. Hope it helps.

So how does Unifi and Astro ACTUALLY compare? How is the internet speed? Reliability? Lag & Latency? Do either of them have traffic caps? Do they throttle download speeds?
ReplyDeleteIs Astro really more economical? How many channels do you get for RM256? Or is it RM332/month? Where do those RM332 actually come from? Is that for Astro? Unifi? Because, seriously, this last paragraph is not making sense whatsoever.
I recommend that if you want to continue writing a consumer blog you strart trying to do some research instead of copy/pasting pictures from websites.
Hi. Thanks for the comments.
DeleteI have not used TM Unifi, so I can not judge the actual performance of TM Unifi. However, after making a study as above, now I'm using Astro IPTV. In a nutshell, I get information from friends who handles the technical side of the TM Unifi. Performance of both about the same as both are using the same line as the main line is provided by the TM Unifi. The only difference is in terms of a service where users Astro IPTV have to wait quite a long time (about 2-3 days) if you experience technical glitches. While for TM Unifi users only 1-2 days. This is because the main line owned by TM Unifi, so the Astro IPTV should seek help from their side.
Clear rates are as follows:
Astro IPTV = RM133 + RM148 - RM25(discount) = RM256/Month.
TM Unifi = RM133 + RM199 = RM332/month
This information specifically about the comparative PRICES. Do not misunderstand.
Hi, personally I use TM Unifi the 20MBps when it first come out.
DeleteI wonder where the RM332 come from, why did u choose the Superpack package plus Unifi 10MBps?
Can you mix TM Unifi with Astro IPTV?
As for me, logically TM Unifi is much more cheaper compared to Astro IPTV, as TM Unifi include with Hypp TV plus the internet for minimum RM199 per month.
For Astro IPTV, you need to add RM133 + RM148 = RM281 per month as you need to get IPTV and broadband on seperate package.
Hi lq,
DeleteThanks for your comment.
The rate was obtained while I was talking to Astro by telephone. Or.. I misunderstood the conversation, sorry for that. Even so, I find that the current rate Unifi cheaper than Astro but Astro channels more than Unifi. While Unifi has now been enhanced broadband speeds to 30Mbps with their new pakcage and relatively inexpensive when compared with the broadband service provided by Astro. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Astro is busy promoting their Video On Demand, while Unifi has increase their broadband speed with a great value. Whatever it is up to the users to choose according to their needs and capabilities of each. Just my hope that both companies can provide the best service and reduce the rate that does not burden the user.
Maxis fiber with astro iptv is the biggest ever mistake I ever made. When maxis fiber is down there's no astro. Alsowhen it works, the picture quality of astro is horrendous. The pixellation is very bad. The new pvr box is a low quality box which goes haywire with my Philips soundbar. Any button I press on my Philips remote affects the astro pvr box. There are problems with ' recording failed' on this box. Those with Timedotcom astro iptv box are better off. There are many of my friends facing problems with Maxis astro iptv. Most importantly if you cancel to revert back to satellite services, the 24 months (not one yr like unifi) contract has a penalty fee of RM2400 which they dont tell you. Standalone Maxis fibers penalty is 500 like unifi for 1 yr but astro binds you 2yrs for 2400!! Complain to MCMC or CFM to get your recourse.
ReplyDeleteHi. I also agree with the pixellation problem but I can solved it by restarting the modem (TM) and router (Maxis).
DeleteI also have a problem remote control and TV Astro thats mutually react with each other but only effected on the switch on/standby button. However, about last week this problem no longer occurs probably because the Astro has updated the firmware.
I do not know about the penalty. If true, I also do not agree with such terms. Thats insane and unfair.
*I really hope the MCMC/SKMM should review the rates charged to consumers for internet and IPTV in Malaysia. They want to encourage people to use it, but the rate of price and performance not meet satisfactory. MCMC/SKMM, please think about that.
don't bother changing to IPTV. endless interruptions. slow service. i hope mcmc will sort them out. customers should get refund. its a con job

ReplyDeleteSoftIPTV.Com is Our Premium IPTV first choice.
ReplyDeleteHi guys, just got through this blog. Good info. I wonder current status of the MAXIS FIBER + ASTRO IPTV AND TM UNIFI...
ReplyDeleteI am trying to get some info about both on speed, connection reliability, performance and extra.
Regarding ASTRO IPTV, is it must we install MAXIIS FIBER or still can go for UNIFI ? I wonder astro will allow to have UNIFI instead of MAXIS broadband.
All this while i thought, if we subscribe 10mbps, bandwidth will be shared for IPTV so get interruption if we perform other activity. But according to some, dedicated bandwidth will be assigned to IPTV which is standard 8mbps for IPTV viewing. That configured via VLAN setting in ROUTER. Same for UNIFI HYPPTV / ASTRO IPTV.
Its like IPTV reserved for 8mbps in standard!
So if u subscribe 5mbps so u get 5mbps (internet) + 8mbps (iptv)
if u subscribe 10mbps so u get 10mbps (internet) + 8mbps (iptv)
if u subscribe 20mbps so u get 20mbps (internet) + 8mbps (iptv)
if u subscribe 30mbps so u get 30mbps (internet) + 8mbps (iptv)
if u subscribe 50mbps so u get 50mbps (internet) + 8mbps (iptv)
if u subscribe 100mbps so u get 100mbps (internet) + 8mbps (iptv)
I have verified about this with ASTRO IPTV AGENTS, they seems not knowledgeable about their own product. Different agents giving different inputs.
They said now ASTRO IPTV has, HYBRID setup where u still can have ur astro dish. When internet down, astroiptv down u still have option to watch astro via dish connection. Till your internet connection back to normal u can use dish connection. No idea about this.
Still i have no confident with combination of ASTRO IPTV + MAXIS FIBER.
MAXIS broadband, using TM FIBER INFRA so connection wise it should be same as UNIFI.. if TM infra has issue then definitely maxis has impact. MAXIS riding on TM FIBER infra, so no difference between UNIFI / MAXIS broadband.. just that after service restoration which takes time i believe.
i have lack knowledge on both broadband so looking for more details.
I believe astro also using time Telekom fiber network
